Welcome and congratulations! I'm excited for your upcoming journey, whether it be your first or sixth pregnancy. Although growing a human is wonderful, it's also hard work. Hiring a doula is a great way to gain more support and I'm humbled that you're here.
I believe a positive experience with birth starts with preparation in pregnancy and continues in support throughout postpartum. Our bodies were built to birth and I believe there is nothing more empowering than a woman being able to birth on her own terms.
Labor is a monumental experience. As your doula, I'm your support, your reference, and your advocate. It is an honor to be a part of each and every birth and I consider it a blessing to be able to serve as a doula.
Why Hire a Doula?
Years ago, births were attended by mothers, sisters, aunts, and other knowledgeable women. It was a sacred event supported by a community of women. And although there is plenty of research and data in support of doulas (such as less interventions and higher chance of spontaneous vaginal delivery) the main purpose is to surround yourself with those that help you feel safe and supported during labor. 'Doula' is a Greek term that means 'one who serves' and I believe that describes my passion for this work accurately.
Although it's impossible to control how your birth unfolds, you can make decisions to positively influence it. A doula can help you advocate for those decisions by providing resources, along with physical comfort measures and emotional support throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum.
